Q1 In the PC version of Outlook, it is possible to define the beginning and the end of the day in the Calendar. Is this possible with PocketPC 2002?
A1 The working-time is pre-defined as 8:00 to 17:00 and cannot be adjusted.
Q2 I have noticed that after closing Pocket Word or Pocket Excel, I am not asked if I would like to save changes. Is there a possibility to find out if any changes were made?
A2 There is an option in Pocket Word and Pocket Excel under Tools > Revert to Saved. When this option is activated, then changes were made in the open file. If the option Revert to Saved is grey, then no changes were made in the open file. Hint: In Pocket Word this option is always activated.
Q3 When sending a voice message via E-mail, the recipient receives a *.pwi file, which may be opened in Word. Unfortunately, the recipient only sees an empty page. If I synchronise the notes with my Desktop PC, then it is possible to listen to them as a voice message in Outlook. What can I do, so that the recipient receives the voice message correctly?
A3 If you send a voice message via START -> Programs -> Notes -> New a *.pwi file is created; instead use the tape-symbol in the bottom menu bar of notes. This creates a new voice recording, which is saved in a *.wav file. This file may be sent as an E-mail without further problems. The recipient is then able to play-back the *.wav file.
Q4 When creating a new calendar entry there is a preselection in the subject heading. It begins with 'Meet with' and ends with the entry 'Complete'. Is it possible to alter these options?
A4 This is a default list and may not be altered.
Q5 Can I view PDF files on my Xda II?
A5 Yes - a PDF viewer comes with Xda II
Q6 Can I use Microsoft Project files on my PocketPC?
A6 The Twiddlebit Software company has developed a programme with which Microsoft Project plans can be edited and viewed. Microsoft Project 98, 2000 and 2002 are supported. You can download a restricted demo-version at http://www.twiddlebit.com/pocketplan.htm
Q7 Can I create a document on Pocket Excel and Pocket Word and print it out later?
A7 Yes. After completing your document, you can sync it over to your computer to print it out.
Q8 Is there any difference between Pocket versions and Desktop versions of Messenger, Word and Excel?
A8 All pocket versions are scaled-down versions of the equivalent programs for desktops. For instance, Pocket MSN Messenger cannot support NetMeeting, MSN mobile notification and voice chat, etc. Pocket Excel can only support simple form spreadsheets but not Macro or other more advanced functions.
Q9 After a successful synchronisation between my Pocket PC and Outlook on the Desktop PC - all appointments appear twice in my calendar. How can I delete the duplicate entries?
A9 ActiveSync 3.7 automatically checks for duplicate entries, which may then be deleted automatically on request
Q10 The Today screen only displays appointments for the current day. Is it possible to display appointments for the following 2 to 3 days and where can I make this adjustment?
A10 No, the standard Pocket PC Today screen does not offer the option of displaying appointments for several days
Q11 I kept receiving reminders for birthdays though the entry was deleted from my calendar. As I try to delete it, a note was received that it doesn't exist anymore and will still be reminded. Why?
A11 There are still some contacts with a birthday entry in the contacts details. Outlook keeps using this input to create a calendar entry - if you do not want this reminder, this birthday entry must be deleted in the contact.
Q12 In calendar, how do I copy an entry to several days?
A12 For the entry to several days or edit the pattern, change the "Occurs" of the appointment from "Once" to "Weekly", "Monthly", "Yearly" or "Edit Pattern".
Q13 In calendar, how do I enter an entry without attaching a time eg Christmas day?
A13 Change the "Type" of appointment from "Normal" to "All Day".
Q14 I use Office XP and would like to copy documents created with Word to my xda. I receive error messages that it cannot be read or the contents are not convertible. How can I copy it to the xda?
A14 It is possible to save documents directly in Word with the menu option: Save as Pocket Word Document. Both file endings *.psw (Pocket Word) and *, pwd (Pocket Word 1.0/2.0/3.0) are available. These files can be then copied to the xda without further problems.
Q15 Why is "###" shown in the excel file?
A15 A "###" error value occurs when the cell contains a number, date, or time that is wider than the cell or when the cell contains a date and/or time formula that produces a negative result. What you can do is to increase the width of the column. You can resize the column by dragging the boundary between the column headings.
Q16 I'm unable to delete files in the personal folder on the desktop during synchronisation. What should I do?
A16 Stop all the running programmes in the background, then re-sync the XDA and try to delete the files again. It should work after that.
Q17 When using Nokia Phone (9210) to send excel file over to the XDA, why is the XDA unable to recognise the file?
A17 Xda will read Microsoft excel files but not Nokia's own excel file format
Q18 Why is it that I cannot delete my excel or word document?
A18 The excel or word document is still open. Therefore, make sure that the file is closed. To check, go to Start and look for the excel or word logo, then click on the button. Then you should be able to see if the document is open or not. Close the file and after that you should be able to delete it. If this doesn't work, soft reset xda and you should be able to delete the file.
Q19 What types of file does MS Reader support?
A19 It supports MS E-Book .lit format. MS Word 2000 & MS Word 2002 document can be converted to .lit format easily with Microsoft Reader 2.0 for PC.
