Back to top1 General Xda questions
Q1 I am searching for an option to connect the switch for accepting incoming calls on my headset with my VoiceDial Software. It would then be possible to start the voice recognition at the push of a button and speak the commands into the headset microphone. How can I achieve this with my xda?
A1 The switch functions as an earthing switch, meaning it only short circuits the microphone lead with the mass lead. The xda electronics recognises this as picking up the call. If this switch is pressed during a conversation, the microphone is muted through the short circuit. Unfortunately, it is however not possible to assign this switch to software, such as a Voice Dialler.
Q2 I read that xda is produced by the same manufacturer as IPaq. The 38 series IPaq has a sync/battery charger cable, which fits the xda. If I use it on my xda, would it cause any problems?
A2 Although plug compatible, the two devices are not PIN compatible. Plugging an IPAQ accessory into xda or vice-versa may permanently damage your device, and is not recommended by O2
Q3 What is the warranty period?
A3 In Europe, xda had a 24-month warranty. The exceptions to this policy are the battery - which has a 6 month warranty - and damage to the device which cannot be classified as a manufacturer fault (for example, a cracked screen or body).
Q4 What is the maximum external memory size?
A4 The maximum size we have successfully tested is 1GB.
Q5 Can I take my xda along in the winter when skiing? Do I need a padded bag/pocket because of possible temperatures under the freezing point?
A5 Absolutely. You must distinguish between only taking it along or using it, because the display functions poorly or not at all in cold environments. The fluid crystals in the LC-display can suffer irreparable damage if they freeze (in temperatures less than ten degrees Celsius). In addition, rapid temperature changes can very frequently lead to faulty devices. When a device switches between cold and warm temperatures, condensation forms in the device, which can affect the electronics in the device.
Q6 Is there a warranty card in the package? Do I need to fill it out?
A6 There is a warranty card in the package, and there is no need to fill it out.
Q7 My xda no longer holds a charge - as soon as I plug in the power supply unit the charging indicator does not light up. The PocketPC however, is running without any problems. What can I do?
A7 Restart the PocketPC by soft-resetting the device. The charging indicator should light up again when you put it back into the power supply unit. If this does not happen your unit may be faulty - call your service provider to have the unit repaired.
Q8 How do I change the battery inside the xda? How much does it cost for the replacement?
A8 The replacement of the internal battery must be performed by authorised service personnel. Please contact your service provider for more support.
Q9 How can I track what my GPRS usage?
A9 Select Programs > File Explorer > My Device > Windows. Scroll down to the application labelled ByteCounter. Tap and Hold and select Copy. Scroll up and tap the Start Menu folder. Select Edit > Paste Shortcut. This utility is now on your Programs menu , and will report statistics for the last active connection.
Q10 Where can I get the XDA driver for my windows xp pro notebook pc, so that I can link my notebook pc via the usb cradle holding the XDA?
A10 Windows XP will install a general driver for xda on first installation. You should ensure the cradle is not attached to a USB hub - these are known to cause problems.
Q11 How can I enable the hardware lock button on the Xda?
A11 You can enable the hardware lock button on the Xda by tapping Start > Phone > Tools > Options > More then tap 'Lock all buttons except Power button'. This will disable all button presses when the device is switched off. Or you can also set a password for extra security (either 4 digit or alpha/ numeric) - so if you tap the screen when it's in standby mode, you are first prompted for your password. This will stop any accidental screen taps from progressing further (if it was in your pocket for instance).
Q12 I have just installed the wired version of Tom Tom Navigator on my Xda and I get a "Com 1 does not exist" error message. How do I fix this?
A12 The solution is to turn off anything that uses Com 1 on the Xda. The IrDA Beam option uses Com 1. To turn this off go to Start > Settings > Connections tab > Beam > untick "receive incoming beams". The foldable keyboard accessory uses Com 1. To turn this off go to Start > Keyboard > untick the "Enable" option.
