Q1 I am searching for an option to delete unnecessary E-mail services from my PocketPC In-box. In which menu can I delete E-mail services?

A1 No longer required E-mail services may be deleted in the In-Box menu Tools > Options. All created E-mail services are listed here. The currently activated service is marked with an asterisk. The service you would like to delete must be tipped with the pen for at least 2 seconds; a pull-down menu appears, where you may choose the option Delete.

Q2 I use the option in Internet Explorer of storing complete Internet pages as a file on my Desktop PC. In doing so, the pictures are also packed into archives with the ending *.mht. is there a possibility to open these files with the Pocket Internet Explorer?

A2 Pocket Internet Explorer is not able to open (*.mht) web-archives.

Q3 Why is it not possible to synchronise my E-Mail drafts in MS Outlook on my PC to my xda via ActiveSync?

A3 It is possible to save Desktop PC drafts as HTML files. If these drafts were to be synchronised, they would not be able to read or processed on the xda, since Pocket Outlook cannot display them.

Q4 I cannot access mails form our company server via IMAP with my xda. According to the server administrators, IMAP is used with SSL encryption. Is it possible that Pocket PC 2002 has a problem with this?

A4 SSL encryption is not supported so this feature is not available.

Q5 I would like to be able to retrieve my emails with Pocket Outlook onto my xda from the Exchange Server in our company via remote dial-up. How does this work, since Pocket Outlook does not permit direct connection to an Exchange Server Account?

A5 To synchronise with your company's Exchange Server data via remote dial-up, you need an additional component. This is a server component, known as Microsoft Mobile Information Server (MMIS). Exchange Server 2003 supports xda out of the box.

Q6 Does the xda support the ICQ?

A6 Yes, ICQ for Pocket PC Ver 1.0 Beta can be downloaded from http://www.icq.com/download/ftp-pocketpc.html.

Q7 What are the supported maximum speeds of the GPRS and analog connections?

A7 Real GPRS speed depends on coding scheme implemented and the available bandwidth from the carrier. Currently the xda support 4 timeslots, which equal to approx. 32 - 40 kbps.

Q8 My pocket PC is set up with several mail accounts as well as the standard ActiveSync profile. How can I forward mails from the ActiveSync Profile to other set mail accounts?

A8 When creating or forwarding messages, there is a small arrow on the right in the last line of the header. When you click on this arrow, the option Service: shows the various Mail Servers via which you can send your mail.

Q9 To what extent does Pocket IE support Flash, JavaScript and ActiveX?

A9 Flash is supported with Macromedia Flash Player for Pocket PC that can be downloaded at http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/pocketpc/. ActiveX Controls can be called if previously registered on the device. Supports Windows CE Jscript 3.0 (ECMA-262 compliant) but does not support regular expressions or VBscript.

Q10 Why is it that when I was trying to access internet-banking, an error message prompted that some applets cannot be shown'?

A10 For those applications written as Java Applets, a Java VM is required. However, Java VM is not a standard component provided in PPCPE. You can find 3rd party ISV providing this kind of solution.

Q12 I created a new service in my Inbox to retrieve e-mails. The connection works and the mails are retrieved, but only the headers. How can I get full-copy?

A12 Switch to the Inbox and choose Tools > Options... and tap onto the corresponding service. Tap onto the button Options on page (4/4) and then switch back to page (2/3). Choose Options > Get full copy of messages.

Q13 Is it possible to load an internet page, that I use frequently, via the Start Menu on my PocketPC?

A13 Load the internet page via Pocket Internet Explorer then tap the 'Favourites' Button on the bottom screen bar. The page is then added to the Favourites List. Afterwards switch to the Windows > Favourites directory with the File Explorer. There copy the link to the desired page (tap onto the entry until the context menu appears), then switch into the Windows > Start Menu directory and copy the link into this directory. You can also rename the link, so that you can easily find it in the Start Menu.

Q14 I retrieve Emails with my xda via my provider with POP3. This works fine, but mails are not deleted on the server. I cannot find any option on my PocketPC. Have I overlooked something?

A14 If you retrieve your mails en route via POP3, they remain on the server. You only receive a "copy" of the mails in the in-box of your mobile device. If the mails are retrieved on the desktop with POP3, then they are deleted on the server. You can then transmit the "copy" of your mails to your PocketPC via ActiveSync. Alternatively, you can delete the mails on your mobile device and while you are connected, choose the option "remove deleted objects.

Q15 What security standards are supported on Pocket IE?

A15 SSL2, SSL3, Private Communication Technology (PCT) 1.0 and SGC (Server Gated Cryptography)

Q16 Why can I not access some web pages?

A16 Full-blown Java applets, animated .gif files, and Dynamic HTML are not supported by Pocket Internet Explorer on Pocket PC devices such as O2 xda.

Q17 I restored my data after backup, and now my email has been put into the Activesync folder.

A17 This is a bug within the Microsoft software. On restore, the Activesync profile becomes the only profile for email - other ISP accounts are still valid, but all downloaded email will be put into the Activesync Inbox. Microsoft are aware of this problem.
